Understory Fields is a five-acre working farm above the Fraser River in Fort Langley, BC. The work is hazelnuts in the back grove, dahlia and zinnia in the cut-flower garden, and Red Russian garlic from the October planting. Started 2025 by R. Mann.
Understory Fields is a working farm on five south-facing acres above the Fraser River in Fort Langley, British Columbia. The first one hundred twenty-five hazelnut trees went in October 2025, bareroot from Van Maren Farms in Chilliwack: mostly Jefferson with Felix, Yamhill and Wepster for pollination. Dahlia, zinnia and other cut flowers grow behind a fence raised this spring. Red Russian garlic, planted each October, is lifted and braided in the open barn in August. Part of a three-property plan that extends to lavender on the Commonage in Lake Country and cherries in Kelowna.
